Arranging Process
Mon Apr 21 2025Ideas
- Start with the chord voicings in the reduction, expand those voicings into the lines of the parts.
Setup
-
1
Begin with the Lead Sheet
Add “Reduction”, a piano grand staff:
-
This staff has all the figures during composition. Maybe pointless, because of the need to seperate out the voices, seems easier to just use the horns
-
Use this staff’s chords for playback while working.
Lead vocal staff
Bass staff

2
Start arranging with the vocal line, 1st vocal chorus.
Find tempo and pick main harmony. (use the reduction staff for my changes, lead sheet for stock changes).
Arrange that chorus.
Working
- Tempo
- Song Form (use vocal part)
- Harmonic rhythm, changes
- Bass (walking bass plugin)
- Figures (repetitive okay)
- Intro, ending transitions
- Drum part, look for interesting rhythm opportunities.
